Message from the Chair

Hello! Welcome to the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Medicine.

The Department is a regional World Health Organization recognized training center for radiologists for East, Central and Southern Africa. To date we have successfully trained 150 consultant radiologists many of whom are gainfully employed not only in Africa but also in Australia, UK and Canada.

Our faculty consists of two associate professors; in radiology and medical physics, 4 senior lecturers, 4 lecturers, 1 tutorial fellow who is currently pursuing his PhD studies in Japan, 1 senior technologist and 2 technologists. Also included are 12 honorary lecturers and specialist radiologists from Kenyatta National Hospital which is our primary training facility. We are all actively involved in teaching basic concepts of radiology and radiation protection to undergraduate medical students and in the training, mentoring and supervision of postgraduate radiology students. Students from the other clinical disciplines also rotate in the department during their regular programmes or in their electives.

We have two main programmes in the department; a Masters of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology and a higher diploma course in Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound. We also have a PhD program in Radiology. Our programmes are interactive, problem-based, multi-disciplinary and student-centered to enable our students to achieve the highest levels of competence.

We benchmark with leading universities within Africa and around the world. Our vision as a department is to produce specialist radiologists and clinical sonographers who can effectively compete anywhere in the world.

We look forward to supporting you in the development of your academic and professional success.

With best wishes,

Dr. Gladys N. Mwango
